Summer Workshop 2003
July 26, 2003 - Aug 3, 2003
The UIC HE group’s QuarkNet teachers tested a full-scale detector prototype at UIC, deployed the large-array detectors at individual high schools in the Chicago area, and began collecting data to investigate extended air showers.
In the Summer of 2003, the UIC Quarknet high school teachers, assisted by graduate students Camuyrano and Chetluru, constructed a prototype Large-Array detector prototype consisting of 6 mini-arrays extending over approximately 2500 square meters. Results from these efforts were presented at the 2003 AAPT Meeting by Bob Hurley, our lead high school teacher. The operating Large-Array was temporarily located at UIC and collected several weeks of air shower data.
